SITEX 2008 - Coverage

My prediction for what to expect were correct. See here.
I have not attended the show yet. I will probably be attending tomorrow( Saturday) evening.

At this point I feel there is no point in coming up my own coverage as most other sites have done it already. I will leave it such.

Here are the coverage. Go through them and you will find what I had predicted was indeed correct.

1. Hardware Zone

2. VR Zone

3. Blogopreneur

SITEX 2008 - IT Show

SITEX 2008 - Another IT show

One of the most anticipated IT shows of the year. With year end coming with festivities like Christmas and New Year, this is one of the most awaited Tech event.
Bargain hunters would have waited for this show to get some bargains on this show, expecting to save some cash and get some freebies in return.

Scheduled on:

When
: 27 November 2008 - 30 November 2008
Event type : IT & Electronics
Venue : EXPO Halls 5 & 6
Admission : Public - Free Admission
Event Schedules :Time: 11am to 9pm

What to expect.

1. Netbook/UMPC

The Netbook craze has caught on like wild fire. Almost everyone I know wants a hand in it. One of my friend has two of them, Asus and Acer.
You can expect Acer Aspire One and Asus EEE PC selling hot. Others like MSI Wind and Dell(model name) will be hot favourites too.

2. LCD TV
This has been on display for a long time. Usually there are some distibutors clearing stock or selling them at bargain price. You can find 32 inch TV for under S$800 plus freebies.
Ensure you are getting the Full HD version instead of any LCD TV with HD Ready sticker on it.

3. Memory Memory
Ok. Prices of SD Cards will be dirt cheap. The last show my colleague was able to get a 4GB SDHC card for S$10. Is that a bargain or what.
This time around maybe the 8GB version at a low-low price?
Before purchasing ensure your gadgets are able to support these high capacity SDHC cards.
Yes, you will be able to get other memory cards/sticks for a bargain too. One can never have enough memory.

My Thoughts

The economic problem is not going to stop bargain hunters who have been waiting for sometime now. With Christmas coming and New Year nearing, kids will expect some new gadgets and toy from their parents. Geeks will be looking for new toys.

But I have to warn you. Prices will in most cases be not much different than retail stores. It will be a case of more useless freebies. Just go over to Sim Lim Square and compare prices.

Me and my colleague were discussing about this show and he was saying that it was nothing like those shows in Taiwan and US. Computex Taipei showcases new and upcoming technologies and new innovations. Whereas here in Singapore SITEX(Singapore IT Exhibition) is basically to make sales.

Please leave a comment.

Gmail Theme - Ah refreshing!

The long awaited theme for Google's Gmail has arrived. Or just arrived for my email box in this case.

Just tried it out, and find it interesting. Adds a little more life to the boring light blue scene you see.

Though this was announced by the Gmail team on November 19, I received the availability of this option today. Check Out the Grafitti theme.

You dont have Gmail yet! Go get one @ www.gmail.com

Where is Microsoft Photo Editor?

Most of you guys have been using Microsoft Office suite of software for a long time now I believe. I am a Windows Power User and have been using MS Office since Office 95.

How many of you guys make use of the Microsoft Photo Editor? How many of guys miss it?

Microsoft Photo Editor has been missed out of the Microsoft Office package since MS Office 2003. I still have users who are used to it for simple manipulation and viewing that they want it back.

GET IT BACK

To get it back is simple

Method 1:
If you have an older MS Office CD, simply insert it and install only the Photo Editor.
How to do has been explained here.

Method 2:
Download and install it from here

Thats it, you are good to go!

Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar

How many of you use firefox as your internet/web browser.

If you are, I am sure you are making use if the Bookmarks toolbar as quick access to you most accessed website. I do the same thing and find it very convenient. The problem is by default, it is limited to one row. If you have more bookmarks, it will create an arrow so that you have it click on it and access the rest of the bookmarks.

Do you know that you can expand the row to accommodate more bookmarks like mine?

How to do?

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer
Go to the location as shown in the picture below

Note: If you are unable to see Application Data folder.
Click Tools > Folder Options > View Tab
Ensure "Show hidden files and Folders" is selected

Open the userChrome-example.css and paste the following code:

/* Multi-row bookmarks toolbar */
#bookmarksBarContent {display:block !important;}
.places-toolbar-items {display:block !important; height: 48px !important;
overflow-y:auto!important;}
#bookmarksBarContent toolbarseparator {display:inline !important;}
#bookmarksBarContent .bookmark-item {visibility: visible !important;}
.chevron {height: 0px !important;}
Save this as userChrome.css (as shown above)

Relaunch your Firefox and you are done.

You see the red highlighted code above? 48px is just nice for two rows, if you want more rows just change it to 72px for 3 rows.

You are done.
